化學(xué)突觸編輯光鏡下，多數(shù)突觸 的形態(tài)是軸突終未呈球狀或環(huán)狀膨大,附在另一個神經(jīng)元的胞體或樹突 表面，其膨大部分稱為突觸小體（synaptic corpuscle）或突觸結(jié)（ synaptic bouton）。根據(jù)兩個神經(jīng)元之間所形成的突觸部位，則有 不同的類型，zui多的為軸-體突觸（axo-神經(jīng)組織神經(jīng)組織somatic  synapse）和軸-樹突觸（axo-axonal synapse）此外還有軸-棘突觸 （axo-spinous），軸-軸突觸（axo-axonal synapse）和樹-樹突觸 （dendroden-driticsynapse）等等。通常一個神經(jīng)元有許多突觸， 可接受多個神經(jīng)元傳來的信息，如脊髓前角運(yùn)動神經(jīng)元有2000個以上 的突觸。大腦皮質(zhì)錐體細(xì)胞約有30000個突觸。小腦浦肯野細(xì)胞可多達(dá) 200 000個突觸，突觸在神經(jīng)元的胞體和樹突基部分布zui密，樹突尖 部和軸突起始段zui少。電鏡下，突觸由三部分組成:突觸前部、突觸間 隙和突觸后部。突觸前部和突觸后部相對應(yīng)的細(xì)胞膜較其余部位略增 厚,分別稱為突觸前膜和突觸后膜，兩膜之間的狹窄間隙稱為突觸間隙 。1.突觸前部（presynaptic element）神經(jīng)元軸突終末呈球狀膨大 ,軸膜增厚形成突觸前膜（presynaptic membrane）,厚約6～7nm。 在突觸前膜部位的胞漿內(nèi),含有許多突觸小泡（synaptic vesicle） 以及一些微絲和微管、線粒體和滑面內(nèi)質(zhì)網(wǎng)等。突觸小泡是突觸前部 的特征性結(jié)構(gòu),小泡內(nèi)含有化學(xué)物質(zhì),稱為神經(jīng)遞質(zhì) （neurotransmitter）。各種突觸內(nèi)的突觸小泡形狀和大小頗不* ，是因其所含神經(jīng)遞質(zhì)不同。常見突觸小泡類型有:①球形小泡 （spherical vesicle）,直徑約20～60nm,小泡清亮,其中含有興奮 性神經(jīng)遞質(zhì),如乙酰膽堿；②顆粒小泡（granular vesicle）,小泡內(nèi) 含有電子密度高的致密顆粒,按其顆粒大小又可分為兩種。
